Safety: the Italian packaging industry holds the leading edge

The Italian packaging industry holds the leading edge on safety owing to the tireless commitment of manufacturers, who invested massive resources in securing higher safety standards than those set by industry requirements. However, this benefit may not always be clearly perceived by consumers. This is mainly due to the industry’s difficulties in communicating with end users, creating partnerships and networks and handling food crisis situations.
Taking stock of the industry scenario was the goal at the convention “Packaging choice in food safety” organized by AIDEPI (the Italian Association of Confectionery and Pasta Industries) and hosted by IPACK-IMA 2012, the international exhibition for packaging, material handling and machinery for the food industry in progress until tomorrow at fieramilano.

The findings emerged in the course of the meeting clearly point to the need for closing the ranks and involve all industry players – food producers, packaging companies and monitoring institutions. It is crucial for technology and best practices developed by individual industry players to be shared as a network, to the end of boosting the Italian market. The only way out of the crisis affecting our country is to focus on the outstanding value of our production as well as improving distribution and control systems.
